First of all, we hope everyone had a Happy and Meaningful Thanksgiving.
There were 10 members at the meeting on October 31, 2018. District Five Officers paid their periodic visit to our Post. In attendance from Dist. 5 were Commander Todd Connor, Sr. Vice Garrett Locke and Sgt. at Arms Tony Rabbia. You may also recall Tony is a Past State Commander who donated the American Flag when our Post first began. Adjutant/Finance Officer Ned Brooks read the minutes of the previous meeting which were accepted. Ned also reported $7,577.27 in the checking account.
Members voted to donate $200 to the new learning center at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Boscawen.
Members were reminded of the upcoming Veterans’ Day Ceremony on November 11th at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Boscawen. The Veterans’ Cemetery participated along with many, many other Veteran cemeteries around the country in a program of ringing bells 21 times at 11:00 AM. Several members from our Post did attend the ceremony.
Ned Brooks along with Tony Rabbia reminded our members of the Oratorical Contest for Jr. High and High School students where scholarship money will be awarded in the spring. The state winners will go on to compete nationally. Anyone who may be interested in more information can contact Adjutant/Finance Officer Ned Brooks. Ned is directly involved in this program.
District 5 Commander Todd Conner reported on a proposal from National HQ’s regarding the collection of dues. There was quite a bit of spirited discussion regarding National’s proposed method of collecting dues in the future. The proposal involves the local posts depositing our dues into a separate bank account where national has access to the account. There will be more information regarding this issue in the future.
Membership: Right now we are at about 84%. There are only a few members out there who need to re-up in order for us to reach our goal of 100% by December 31st, which is also the date the 2018 membership expires. If you haven’t re-upped yet, please do!
On November 16, 2018, Commander Dave Hargreaves presented the Charron – Legion Award to Corrections Officer Edward V. Klim at the 109th Corrections academy graduation. C.O. Klim is a Marine Corps Veteran and was given an application and invited to join our Post.
Speaking of the Charron – Legion Award, the 177th Police Academy will be graduating on December 14th at 2:00 PM. The person receiving the award is not known yet. Anyone wishing to participate in presenting the award should contact the Commander.
The Annual Police and Firefighter Exploring awards banquet will be held Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 6:30 PM. As you may recall, the Commander puts this event on at the Police Academy. The event is a catered affair where some outstanding young men and women are recognized for hard work and dedication. If you want to see some well trained and well disciplined, future firefighters and police officers, think about attending. We have a few tickets left and they are $20.00 each
NOTE: Members voted to move the December meeting from the 26th to a week earlier on the 19th.
